Kilkivan

... golden history

Kilkivan Kilkivan lies at the northern entrance to the South Burnett, with easy access from Maryborough, Hervey Bay and Childers

Attractions within this area are diverse!  Tempt your tastebuds with local olives and redclaw crayfish from one of the nearby farms.  Glimpse life as it used to be, by wandering through the town’s historical museum in the main street.  Mudlo Conservation Park, north of Kilkivan, is ideal for birdwatching.

The town’s old bank is now a unique cafĂ© and B&B, offering gift hampers of local produce and wines, sumptuous meals and comfortable accommodation.

Queensland’s first gold discovery was at Kilkvan in 1852 and subsequent findings escalated into a gold rush in 1868.  Small pockets of gold are still found today, and a working gold mine offers visitors the opportunity to try their luck at gold panning.

The annual ‘Kilkivan Great Horse Ride’ is a spectacular event, attracting over 1,000 riders to its trek along parts of the Bicentennial National Trail.
