Fishing

Fishing Competition The South Burnett offers some of the finest freshwater fishing in Queensland.

Bjelke-Petersen Dam at Lake Barambah, near Murgon, and Boondooma Dam at Lake Boondooma, north-west of Wondai, are two of the most popular fishing spots, with the State Fish Stocking Program ensuring plentiful fishing all year round.  Catches of yellowbelly, silver perch, eel-tailed catfish, spangled perch and bass are frequent.

Anglers can try their luck for prizes at the annual fishing competitions held at the lakes.

There is also excellent fishing at many of the creeks and rivers throughout the South Burnett, including Emu Creek and Cooyar Creek.
